SEA TROUT

Over the last few years the Icelandic Sea Trout Runs have proved themselves more and more prolific. Big Strong hard fighting sea trout are now a very real prospect for private teams of two to four rods

The sea trout begin to arrive into the south of iceland around the middle of July with numbers increasing all the way through into October. WE have secured what we consider to be the best dates for Sea Trout on both Tungulaekur and Vatnsa for short back to back stays in August 2025. The bulk of fish will be fresh into the system and these hard fighting sea trout can be caught on a myriad of methods including hitch, dry, nymph and streamer.

Vatnsa is a small stream fed from lake heidarvatn that runs for about 3kms to it’s glacier fed main stem. The fish come up to breed in the lake but hold in the river until late season meaning great light tackle fishing in a wonderland valley bowl. There are excellent trout and numerous char to be caught in the lake margins also. The lodge is beautifully hidden close to the confluence of the lake and the river also has a run of Salmon.

Tungulaekur rises from Iceland’s largest lava field. It mostly centres round a falls pool where the river runs into a deep run below a disused mini hydro dam. The fish pack up there from the middle of July and can offer great sport throughout August. There are also a variety of pools below the lodge that offer technical fishing before flowing out into a Glacial river.
