THE MIGHTY MIDFJARDARA
It is a terrible cliché to say “how time flies” but it must be at least 8 years since I was last at the Midfjardara lodge. Rabbi and the team have done a great deal of improvements to the lodge. The rooms, lodge and food are first rate as ever.
There was a distinct lack of water in the rivers of the Midfjardara, but despite that the fish were pushing into many of the beats and were frisky.
The fish were hard won but with tiny flies and micro hitches there are few finer ways to hook sea liced salmon in crystal clear water.
A largely Irish crowd meant there was good fun had on the river as well as at the lodge. With a wealth of experience the team were on 154 fish by the time I left early on the last morning. It seems the last session was also very good.
Despite the lack of meaningful rain the fish continue to run and take and the bird life around the river is superb. There are so many wonderful pools on this river and many will really be explosive when the rains come.
