ALPHONSE FISHING REPORT WEEK 15

Fantastic catches have been reported over the past week. One family have been the only group on Alphonse Island at the moment which means they have the St François Atoll all to themselves. The weather over the last week has been absolutely perfect with low winds, hot weather and cold water. Low wind conditions are not always the best when it comes to fishing the flats as the fish tend to be more nervous, however, this is not a problem for anglers who are able to present flies delicately using a gentle cast.

Claudia, the matriarch of the family, decided to try her hand at fly fishing on the flats for the first time. She managed to land three nicely sized bonefish all on her own which is absolutely brilliant for a first-timer. The fly fishing bug definitely got to Claudia and she now proceeds to go along on every fishing trip. Kate H had a brilliant week with her angling skills having improved tremendously, to the point that she is ready to take on giant and bluefin trevally. Kate managed to land 16 bonefish in one session.

Nick H has also had a brilliant week. The triggerfish have unfortunately been giving Nick a run for his money. Nick lost three very big triggers over the week. Nick did, however, manage to land countless bonefish as well as a beautiful 75 cm GT guided by the legendary Zulu warrior, Trevor Sithole.

Mike H has been fishing hard, during the week he landed too many bonefish to count. Mike had some good shots at GTs but unfortunately lost a massive fish.

Our famous bartender Michael Mocke managed to get out onto the Alphonse Flats for a quick fishing session. Mike was fortunate enough to land a monster-sized moustache triggerfish. Mike’s triggerfish measured a whopping 50 cm which is an impressive length for the species.

Another fantastic week was spent at Alphonse Island fishing the St Francois Atoll. Memories were made and bonds were formed that will last a lifetime. Stay tuned for next week’s report as we are sure you won’t want to miss it.
